Traditional roles of a shaman included helping dying persons to prepare for a good death, helping them to release whatever kept them tethered to this Earth and to their lives. After death, the shaman’s spiritual allies helped to escort the souls of the deceased to their ancestral tribe, a process known as psychopomp (accompanying the dead). The shamanic practitioner could help those left behind to grieve, releasing their ties to the deceased. Shamans also were able to heal those who had passed and help suffering souls to be at peace, who had not yet met their tribe.

This workshop will provide opportunities to learn about helping people in the dying process, connecting with compassionate spirits to do psychopomp, and helping spirits of the departed after death, both animals and people. There is a special initiation—an experience of your own death in all its beauty. Individual, as well as group psychopomp will be presented. There will be ceremony each evening to anchor your learning.

Prerequisite: Soul Retrieval.

You will be given a full bibliography of resources to help expand your knowledge of hospice, death, dying process, and working shamanically with those who have passed.
